In the occasion of the centenary of its foundation
Genoa celebrates the father of Moto Guzzi
A programme of events is taking shape as Genoa prepares to celebrate one hundred years since the foundation of Moto Guzzi. The famous Italian motorcycle company's Deed of Incorporation was drawn up and registered in Genoa on 15 March 1921, in the office of Notary Cassanello in Corso Andrea Podestà in Carignano.
The co-signatory and founder, together with Carlo Guzzi e Giovanni Ravelli, was Giorgio Parodi, a true Genoese, entrepreneur and aviator whose passion led to the inclusion of the eagle (symbol of the First World War aviation corps) in the Guzzi logo. Parodi is also being remembered because it was on his initiative that the Genoese section of the Aero Club d’Italia came into being.
It is in the name of this illustrious Genoese that, over three days from 14th to 16th May, Genoa will become “capital” of the “Guzzisti” from all over the world, and also the location for events and gatherings that everyone can enjoy.

A rich programme of events
The Giorgio Parodi Association, promoter and organiser, together with the Municipality of Genoa, has planned a rich programme of events that will take place over three days in May at the Old Port.
Planes and motorcycles promise to make this “golden eagle” event truly memorable: the ASI (Automotoclub Storico Italiano) will select 100 vintage motorcycles to take part in the event. With clear reference to flying, Falcone, Airone and Galletto are just some of the impressive names of the fascinating motorcycles created by the Genoese entrepreneur Giorgio Parodi and his brilliant designer Carlo Guzzi.
In commemoration of Giorgio Parodi’s lifelong passion for flying, and thanks to the ASI Aeronautical Commission, a number of vintage aircraft will perform a fly past over the Old Port, making for an even more impressive event.
Curator of the events as well as creator of the entire initiative is Elena Bagnasco, President of the Giorgio Parodi Association and niece of the entrepreneur to whom the book entitled “Giorgio Parodi – The Wings of the Eagle” is dedicated. Currently in publication, the book recounts the adventurous life of “Lettuce” – the endearing nickname that the pilot chose for himself – through a series of unpublished photographs and stories.
Special recognition for Giorgio Parodi
The Institutions of the Liguria region led by the Municipality of Genoa, together with the Italian Air Force (which will reach its centenary on 28th March 2023) and the Genoese Air Force Association (AAA), have identified Giorgio Parodi as being an important Genoese entrepreneur and sports enthusiast.
As part of the celebrations, there will of course be an event dedicated to charity: an exclusive gala dinner to be held in the halls of the Palazzo Ducale, the proceeds of which will go to ‘Giannina Gaslini’ Children’s Hospital which will also receive any donations collected during the events.
